The commanders of Iran's Basij Volunteer Force say the annual exercise is designed to deter possible enemy attacks from the Persian Gulf waters. The two-day field exercise covers both combat training and disaster relief in Bushehr Province.\n\nThe second day of the exercise involves counter-attacks against mock enemies that have captured coastal towns. The commander of field operations told Press TV that the Volunteer Force is committed to regional peace and stability. He also said that today's muscle-flexing sends a signal that the force is ready to defend the country. \n\nIran's Basij conducts field drills throughout the year. These drills involve operations with other armed forces
