It's time to look for a banquet facility. Most clients end up deciding on a particular banquet facility for two specific reasons ? they like how they were treated by the banquet sales staff and they fall in love with the facility when they walk through the doors. Those are both great reasons for going with specific venues. Here are some other things to consider when shopping for a banquet facility that may have drastic impacts on the success or failure of your wedding.The bar should be in the same room as dancing. Having a separate bar area will only lead to splitting your guests into separate areas and that is never good. If the banquet facility has more than one event running at the same time ? how is the sound proofing between rooms? What type of event is in the next room to your wedding? A 50th anniversary or another wedding is ok, but if it's a high school prom, you may want to rethink your choice. If you are having a DJ and the next room has a band, that also should be taken into consideration.Your wedding cake should be located in an appropriate area in the room ? it should not be set in front of mirrors (photographers have a hard time with that) and it should be accessible, but not in a place that can easily be bumped by one of the children as they run around your reception. Of course, when it comes time for cake cutting if the banquet facility can roll the cake to the center of the dance floor ? that's even better. Everyone can see, and the cake can be quickly removed afterwards.A well trained banquet staff will take care of certain details for you ? they will be there to guide your wedding party during introductions. Someone will be assigned to take your flowers from you and the wedding party after you are introduced. For introductions, there should be a clear (and straight) path wide enough for two people to walk arm in arm to the dance floor and to the head table. If you visit a banquet facility ? you should look at the layout and see if you and your partner can walk together through the tables and onto the dance floor. You should imagine the room filled with guests and people standing around each table and chairs pulled back from the tables as they will be during your entrance.Typically, a well run facility will assign server(s) to the head table and possibly the family tables and they will be your contact person throughout your reception. Ask if that head server will be in the room the entire night or if they will be leaving after dinner.Another thing to look at is where your entertainment will be setting up. Is it near the dance floor? Where will their speakers go? Many banquet facilities do not leave enough room for a typical DJ to setup in. Many even expect the DJ to setup their speakers so that they have to project music across a couple tables worth of guests (your grandparents won't like that as that is typically the grandparents table). If you have a large number of people in your wedding party, you might want to tier the head table to allow for more access to the dance floor for your DJ and their sound gear. Stand where the DJ will be setup. Can they see the cake? Can they see where you will be introduced from and the head table for introductions? It is best if your entertainment is setup along one edge or at the corner of the dance floor (not 20 feet back from the dance floor).How fast is the meal service? There are too many facilities that are slow at serving the meal. Your 7-12 wedding will get less than 2 hours worth of dancing. Ask your DJ about the speed of service. Yes, you do not want to rush your guests eating, but you also do not want to make them wait 30 minutes between each course either. If your guests are just getting desert at 10:30 pm, the chances of having a great time dancing becomes very difficult. With only an hour and a half of dancing, you might get 30 songs to dance to.Other things to consider when checking out a banquet facility ? if your reception is over at midnight, can the music play until midnight or do they force the entertainment to end at 10-15 minutes prior? This is becoming more and more common for area banquet facilities. A banquet facility should not run on "bar time" as we typically refer to the practice of bars making last call and ending early to push patrons out prior to the top of the hour. We've even seen high end banquet facilities turn on the lights 10 minutes prior to scare away guests. Strip clearing tables is also a common technique that facilities use to push guests away early. The staff would come around and clear everything off of the tables ? all glasses, centerpieces, etc. This is a subtle way to force guests to leave. This is unacceptable. A good facility will wait even 10-15 minutes AFTER the contracted end time before they start clearing. This is proper etiquette.In closing, yes it is important to fall in love with your facility. The feel has to be what you are looking for (romantic, beautiful view, old world charm, etc.) and you should be treated as if they are really interested in your business and your ideas. There are other logistic things to pay attention to and question before your sign on the dotted line. If you're just not sure, call a local wedding vendor (photographer, videographer, disc jockey) and ask them what their experience has been with a particular venue. Ask what to look out for (slow service, lack of staff, etc.) and make sure you get everything in writing from your facility. Because KSU-Less phone systems are relatively inexpensive, they are not usually sold, installed, or maintained by telecoms vendors.All of this means, you have to go out there and do not only the shopping yourself but, also the installation and support. This is one of the two major drawbacks of KSU-Less systems. The last thing any business needs is to be concerned with the reliability and maintenance of its phone system. Another drawback of KSU-Less systems is that they are more prone to something known as "crosstalk". This is where separate conversations may blend into each other. With PBX, Key systems and Hybrid systems falling in price, it sometimes makes more sense to invest in a full business phone system, rather than become susceptible to the risks of a KSU-Less system.Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systemsIf your business typically requires more than forty extensions, or your needs dictate you need advanced functions from your business phone system, then PBX systems are often the solution. PBX systems used to be extremely expensive and only affordable by huge corporations with hundreds of extensions. Though this is still the case for larger installations, the development of the technology required has progressed to the point where a powerful, fully functional PBX office phone system for a small business is able to fit on the top of a desk.Nearly all these compact PBX phone systems come with all the features you might want as standard. You pay a premium for the programmability and flexibility that a PBX offers, but in most cases the price difference is not as much as you may imagine between that of a less flexible phone system.Key SystemsKey phone systems are more typical in businesses that require five to forty extensions. This type of phone system uses a central control unit called the Key System Unit (KSU) to provide features and functions that are not available using ordinary phones. An example of this is: key systems using a KSU allow one extension to call another in house extension, and prevents any other users from picking up a line that is already in use. Key systems usually come as standard with most features any business would expect, but in some cases they are often less flexible than a PBX phone system.PBX & Key Systems (hybrids)Though Key and PBX systems have some different technical features, these differences have become somewhat blurred over the past couple of years. Many Key systems now offer features that were once only available to those who chose to install a full PBX phone system. Some systems also operate internally as either a PBX or Key system depending on the software installed. Sometime these systems are often referred to as "Hybrid" phone systems.Installation & maintenance of PBX and Key phone systemsPBX and Key phone systems require installation by fully trained and qualified telecoms engineers. All outside and inside lines must connect to the PBX or KSU cabinet. The installation and maintenance of one of these types of phone system can be just as expensive as the phone system itself. In many cases you may be able to use the existing phone lines available in your office, but unless the phones you have been using are relatively new, they may not be compatible with your new system, requiring you to purchase new handsets as well as the system itself.The Right Size SystemIt is important that when buying a new business telephone system, that you know your requirements in advance. Knowing what features need to be included with your new telephone system will stand you in good stead when it comes to negotiating with potential suppliers. When considering buying a new telephone system for your business, there are two major factors that determine the size of the system you require:Lines. These are sometimes called trunks. The number of lines a system has denotes the number of outside lines being used by a company.Extensions. Most extensions will be made up of handsets. Though any equipment that requires a phone line is classed as an extension. This includes fax machines, modems, and credit card equipment etc.It is important that you make a list of all the extensions and lines you may need for your new phone system. Even if your current telephone system is handling calls well for the time being, this may not be the case when any future expansion or improvements are fully implemented. A good business phone system should be able to handle expansion easily and in a cost effective manor. PBX phone systems allow you to expand their capabilities, by adding new expansion cards, thus increasing the number of ports available for use. A few key systems can be expanded by the addition of another cabinet that is identical to the first.When planning your new system it is important that you enquire about the potential cost for the addition of more extensions or ports. It is important that when choosing a new business phone system, you ensure expansion will come not only easily but as affordable as possible for your company.Telephone System Dealers and InstallersFinding a good reliable dealer is the most important part of buying a new business phone system. A good reputable dealer will not only be able to sell you the system you require, but will offer excellent, guaranteed installation and service as well as always be on hand to answer any questions you have when problems arise. To put it simply they will be there to hold your hand and guide you through the process, from the planning and selection of a suitable system, to the implementation of you new system and training of staff. Any potential supplier will be more than happy to talk to you about any aspect of a new business phone system, and offer testimonials as to the quality of their systems and installation service.It is not uncommon for buyers to require a demonstration of potential new phone systems. One of the major obstacles to achieving goals is losing the motivation necessary to finish them. Many times the initial surge of energy is lost after the reality of hard work or set backs sets in. Here are eleven things that can be done to maintain high motivation.1. Every day, write down your top three goals . This will keep your goals constantly in your mind, creating an urgency.2. Think about your top three goals and decide what one thing you can finish today which will bring you one step closer to your goals. By doing this 365 days a year, you will be making constant progress toward your success. Progress is a great motivation.3. Upon awakening in the morning, mentally review your day. If there is any challenge you have to accomplishing your goal, mentally visualize yourself successfully working through the challenge. This mental practice will give you added confidence when encountering this challenge.4. Keep a journal next to your bed. If you wake up in the middle of the night with a means of more easily accomplishing your goal, write it down. Over the past several years I have experienced my fair share of success. However, it has not been without its fair share of obstacles and setbacks. I was reflecting upon this recently as I confronted a recent disappointment. Hundreds of emotions raced through my mind as the reality set in that my deepest plans and desires were not going to reach my goals.To say that I was frustrated would truly be an understatement. A few days earlier I could taste victory and knew that my visions would soon be manifested. As the reality set in that my goal was not to be, I experienced all of the feelings that accompany disappointment and confusion.So close. Yet so far.Over the years I have learned that there is one powerful question that we can ask ourselves when life does not go as planned. Unfortunately, most people would rather complain than apply this simple process. It was so tempting to make excuses and feel sorry for myself. Or to justify the experience and try and convince myself that this was not really that important.Eventually I came to my senses and this question worked its magic as it always does.Any guesses on what you think the question is?While losers wallow in defeat and communicate self defeating behaviors, winners ask themselves?."what is it that I can learn from that experience?" That question turns my focus around in a heartbeat and before I know it I can see numerous solutions that will assist me in my endeavor.Before I knew it I was focused on receiving a first class education as opposed to feeling sorry for myself.

The first of January and September, as well as our birthdays seem to be the times in a year when we focus on the gulf between where we are and where we would like to be. By now, many of you have already given up your New Years Resolutions and settled back into the comfortable routine of last year. Before you get too snug, dust off your dreams and look at them again. Let's make this year a year to be proud of. Let's make this the year of personal reinvention, to do the things that we have always wanted to do, and to become the women we have always wanted to be; doers, not just dreamers.The dreams may be made about the books we would like to read, the projects we would like to complete, the weight we would like to loose, the trips we would like to take, the degrees we would like to have after our name, the business we would like to start, the houses we would live. The dreams that women have are as diverse as they are, they range from personal to spiritual, from familial to professional. None seem too big, and on the flip side, none are too trivial.Here are some steps that may help you turn your dreams for the upcoming year into attainable goals.1. Write your dreams- Moving your dreams onto paper is the first step from bringing them from the invisible realm of the mind or heart to a tangible form. You need to see your dreams on paper.2. List your goals as affirmation statement- refrain from using the term "I would like to" or "I want to" and use strong affirmations. "I will" or "I am going to." Somehow with just that shift in words the dream becomes just that much stronger, a promise to yourself.This year I will ___________________________.In the next three months I will have _____________________.3. Set limits to your goals - Put values and limits on your goals and be specific. The more general your goal statement is the less likely you are going to reach it.An example of an abstract goal is, "I want to lose some weight this year."A specific goal would be, "I will loose 25 lbs in the next six months."4. Think from the end- Project yourself into the future. Picture yourself with all of those goals accomplished. What are the steps that had to be taken to get you there?Some things are easy to figure out, for example:- To lose 25 lbs in the next six months you must consistently loose a bit more than one pound per week. This goal is doable.- To read the Bible in a year, you must read only 3 chapters a day.To start a business or organize your home, get out of debt, or write a book, the steps are more numerous, and perhaps more complicated, but when they are broken into small bite-sized manageable tasks, to be accomplished weekly or daily chunks they don't look so daunting.5. Hold yourself accountable- This is the thing that separates the doers and the dreamers. Do something every day and each week towards reaching your goals. If we really want it we must be willing to work for it, to invest time to it. Some may find that they work best with an accountability partner, others, realize they owe it to themselves, and themselves alone, to succeed.I challenge you.
