100 Red Bows

                                  
I’m sorry to say I’ve let you down

It’s taken me years to turn around

You told me the truth from day one

I’ll never escape what I’ve done

So…



I’m getting back on the train

The one we could see through our window panes

It’s been years since I’ve used the word home

And my fear wouldn’t let me return

So I’ll go on my way….But if you want me to stay

Hang a red bow on the old sycamore by the road



And dad it’s been years since we’ve spoken at all

I cringe at the words we left with that fall

I’ve never forgotten that face you made 

When you said that you loved me and I walked away

But…



And I’m on my way

My hear it beats faster as I recognize street names

What if the bow has blown off

Or what if you never put it up at all



It’s the brightest tree I’ve ever seen

Covered in red with no room for green

Means nothing to the passerby

But these colors have just changed my life

I made my mistakes…. But you loved me the same
